For over fifty years, one of the biggest names in the field of powersports has been Kawasaki. This Japanese-born manufacturing giant has spent their time wisely by diversifying their product lines to produce all types of motors and engines as well as the vehicles that contain them. United States Company History

 

The American Kawasaki Motorcycle Corporation built upon a legacy of manufacturing that extended back over 70 years in Japan. A meat warehouse in Chicago, IL, was used as the headquarters for the American division, which was founded in the 1960s by a group of businessmen who wanted to supply the market with reliable powersports vehicles.

 

Their first motorcycles with two-stroke engines rolled off their assembly lines under the Omega name. These were swiftly followed by the Samurai and Avenger lines, which were specially built to suit the American market, which craved heavy, powerful bikes with plenty of muscle.

 

Industry Pioneering

 

The Mach III, a potent superbike, was launched in 1969, leading Kawasaki to become an international producer of superbikes. In 1973, the company followed this success with the Z1, which contained a strong four-cylinder, four-stroke engine in a sleek frame. The incredible success of these models helped the American Kawasaki division to create a more unified distribution network to better supply dealers across the country.

 

Further Diversification

 

Also in 1973, Kawasaki expanded into the personal watercraft market, making them a producer of marine-based recreational machines in addition to their land-based lines. They added to the latter in 1981 with the release of their first three-wheeled ATV, which was soon supplanted by the more stable and secure four-wheeler in 1985.

 

The success of these two lines continues to this day, making Kawasaki a brand that many Americans know and trust when it comes to reliable powersports machines.
